Among the goals of this paper are:
-Determining the methods of making people participate in planning, decision making and implementation toward low carbon cities.
-Improving knowledge, information, and culture in moving toward low carbon cities.
Abstract
Throughout history cities have been strongly influenced by peoples` social behavior. Now a days one of the most component for moving toward Low-Carbon cities is people behavioral change. People participation is regarded as one of the most important topics in the development and transformation of certain urban regions.
In Iran considerable research has been carried out on urban management but very little on the role of people on strategic urban project. Explaining the necessities, policies and practical methods of residents' participation in strategic urban project is regarded as a helpful and important solution for Iran's governmental organizations, such as the ministry of Housing and Urban Development and municipalities.
Among the goals of this paper are:
--Determining the methods of making people participate in planning, decision making and carrying out toward Low-Carbon cities.
--Achieving a suitable system to encourage peoples' participation.
--Improving knowledge, information, and the culture of cooperation in moving toward Low-Carbon cities.
Shiraz city was used as a case study. With the help of a questionnaire, 30 officers of the housing and urban development office and Shiraz municipality were asked about the role of people on moving toward Low-Carbon cities. This study wanted to define people's participation in the programs related to low carbon cities and to establish urban cooperative associations.
