GuangMing new city is a low carbon city that is being planned and implemented. This paper will introduce the experiences and practices of the city.
Abstract
Guangming new district, located in the north west part of Shenzhen City, was established in May 2007 with an area of 156.1 square kilometers. It is one of the sub-centers and key new towns of Shenzhen. The significance of urban planning is long-term and constructive for the development of the district. Making full use of the pioneering and comprehensive effects of urban planning, we target at building an attainable low carbon new city through exploration and practices such as optimizing spatial structure, perfecting green planning of municipal facilities, guiding the low-carbonization development of industries, building green transportation system, and promoting green buildings. Energy consumption has been reduced while efficiency increased greatly. We strive for setting up a model for the scientific development of China by constructing a low carbon spatial pattern, industrial structure, and lifestyle. Summarizing the experiences and practices of the urban planning of Guangming, this paper presents a case study of ˇ°low carbon cityˇ± that is being planned and implemented for this international seminar. Practices carried out in fields such as industry, transportation, and green buildings are introduced. In addition, we want to take this chance to broaden our horizons and exchange ideas with other practitioners through this international seminar to promote the construction of a better Guangming green new city.
