Abstract received by fax and inserted by ISoCaRP The paper is devoted to a case study in Rosario periphery. The aim is to verify the relationship between new residential settlements and social segregation (spatial segregation and social patterns segregation). New four residential settlements of different and social patterns are studied. It is expected the study will show a systematic knowledge about a specific case. The interest is to compare this case with similar cases in other regions. Two questions drive the study: Are these settlements an direct effect of cultural patterns globalisation? Are they an effect of information society? This paper presents: § The location of the four settlements in the whole periphery transformation process. § The spatial and social features of the four residential settlements. § The marketing strategies of urban developers. The study is carried out through interviews with owners, neighbours and developers in order to get information about: § Which is the owners' vision about the city and its problems? § Are these settlements an alternative way of life for the owners? § Are they, form owners point of view, a mode of spatial differentiation? § How the neighbours perceive the presence of these settlements? § Which are the developers strategies for different market demands? This study is part of the research program ''An observatory of territorial dynamics. Periphery transformations and public policies in Rosario'' sponsored by Conicet (National Council of Scientific and technical Research) and the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion).
Abstract
This paper is an analysis of recent transformations in Rosario periphery and in small towns around the city. The case of study is Rosario west side and its urban extension into two towns: Funes and Roldán. This study is part of a research project developed by the authors with the financing of the Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica and CONICET.
